Gambler (poetry freestyle)

The stakes have been never been higher.
Can I really trust that they’ll play fair?
Maybe they’ve just been bluffing:
betting three of a kind when they don’t have a pair.

I keep looking for certain signs:
drops of sweat,
drumming of fingertips,
even a look in the eyes–
something that can give me some type of advantage
to give me a ring side seat into their minds.

I have to pray my instincts are finely tuned
as more value gets added to the pot.
An executive decision’s made: i’m going all in!
Time to reveal the have and have nots.

Others think I’m playing games because they chime in too!
Soon everyone’s focus is on our little crew.

One card, two cards,
then the final one drops.
Fists bang angrily on the table
while other jaws have dropped.
I squeal in joy and give glory to the river
because that last card made me the ultimate winner!
