Tightrope (Poetry freestyle)

There’s nothing she could ever say to make Chris turn his back
but times like these, Ariel wished that he would!
By now he should have seen she was merely playing a role
and that she failed miserably at being the star in his cast.
How much of a loathsome human being must she be
to make Chris cut the strings so that both of them can be free?
Ariel did not do these things because she hated his flesh,
but because she loved him enough
to already know she wasn’t good enough.

Everyone called me stuck on stupid–straight borderline crazy!
Ariel’s very flagrant and nonchalant with her affairs:
even brung an unwelcomed visitor one time.
Yet despite all those things, Ariel remained the spotlight of my worship,
and as long as I’m alive she will never be released.
I promised devotion to the end and no room to renege!
I did not do this because I hated Ariel’s flesh
but because I lacked enough love for myself
to gauge what’s truly best.
