Exchanged Glances (Poetry Freestyle)

The two exchange glances:
the non verbal unmistakable;
guess it’s easy to stroll around
making visual judgments.
She pulls out her fancy iPad
from her yellow Coach purse
and taps those Prada shoes against the floor
while the other goes to work.

The two exchange glances:
the non verbal unmistakable;
convenient to get high off
making particular assumptions.
She flips through lots of envelopes–
each one of them a “Past Due”
while the other has gotten letters
and a card that reads “Thinking of you.”

The two exchange glances:
the non verbal unmistakable;
fortunate if you’re around
to capture this Kodak moment.
She stands outside her workplace in tears
as her Benz is towed away
while the other is presented an award
for being an advocate in her community.
